How Package Forwarding Works for Business FAQ

Last updated:

Package forwarding is not only for shoppers. Businesses use it too, to receive products in the U.S., store them, and ship them to customers or offices around the world.

This FAQ explains how Shipito for Business works for online stores, bulk inventory, and product samples. It also covers storage limits, plan sizes, team access, and the API.

How Does International Package Forwarding Work for an Online Store That Doesn't Ship Outside the U.S.?

Answer: You send your products to a U.S. warehouse, and the forwarding service ships them to your customers or your business abroad. With Shipito for Business, you get a U.S. business address, discounted international rates, and services for storage, fulfillment, and returns, all in one account.

Do you resell U.S. products in your online store, but don't want to deal with customs forms, fraud risk, frequent returns, and expensive international shipping? Shipito for Business helps companies buy, store, and ship products from the U.S. to destinations worldwide.

Here's how it works:

  • Step 1, sign up: Choose a Shipito for Business membership and get your U.S. forwarding address. Members can use all four Shipito warehouses: California and Oregon in the U.S., Rastenfeld in Austria, and Chiba in Japan.
  • Step 2, send your products: Ship to our California warehouse for fast shipping, or to our Oregon warehouse, where there is no sales tax.
  • Step 3, check them in: Our team scans your products, takes photos, and uploads the details to your business account.
  • Step 4, ship: Choose your international shipping method and check out.

Instead of arranging every overseas order one by one, you manage all your deliveries in one place. To talk about your business needs, email businesssupport@shipito.com.

Can a Business Use a U.S. Forwarding Address To Receive Bulk Inventory or Trade Show Samples?

Answer: Yes. Shipito for Business can receive bulk inventory, merchandise for your online store, samples from different suppliers, and products you source at U.S. trade shows. You can then store, fulfill, or ship them internationally.

These services help you handle business shipments:

  • Manual Fulfillment: For businesses selling on marketplaces like eBay, Amazon, Etsy, and TikTok. It costs $2.25 per package and works for incoming packages that are ready to ship when they arrive.
  • Pick-and-Pack Fulfillment: We pick, pack, and prepare your items for shipment. It costs $3 per item and requires the Shipito API on your account.
  • International shipping: Use discounted international rates with established carriers like UPS and DHL.
  • Returns management: Get returned products back into your supply chain quickly.
  • API integration: Connect shipping and fulfillment with the systems you already use, so there is less manual work.

Before you send anything to our warehouses, check our prohibited and limited items list. Some products can't be shipped at all. Others need extra documents, special handling, or carrier approval. Checking first helps you avoid delays.

What Happens if a Business Shipment Sits Unclaimed at the Warehouse Past the Free Storage Window?

Answer: You can buy up to 28 extra days of storage. If the free storage ends and you don't buy extra days, the package is considered abandoned and disposed of.

You don't have to ship every package as soon as it arrives. Maybe you're waiting for another supplier's order, or you're planning several deliveries. Every Shipito for Business plan includes free storage:

  • Standard: 45 days
  • Starter: 45 days
  • Growth: 60 days
  • Enterprise: 90 days

If you consolidate two or more packages, the storage deadline is based on the arrival date of the oldest package in the group. Adding a newer package to a consolidated shipment does not reset the storage clock.

Planning helps a lot. Track arrival dates, decide when you want to ship, and give packages enough time to reach the warehouse. If you forward wholesale inventory on a regular schedule, build the storage deadlines into that schedule to avoid extra costs or lost goods.

Is There a Minimum or Maximum Order Volume for Businesses Using a Package Forwarding Service?

Answer: Shipito for Business has no strict minimum or maximum order volume. Instead, there are four membership plans based on how many shipments your business sends each month.

  • Standard: fewer than 10 shipments per month
  • Starter: 10 shipments per month
  • Growth: 30 shipments per month
  • Enterprise: 50 or more shipments per month

All plans cost $12 per month or $99 per year. Pick the plan that matches your usual shipping activity, so you don't pay for a level of service you don't need. If your business grows, you can move to a higher plan.

Does your volume change during the year? Plan around your typical month, not your busiest week. That gives you a more realistic starting point. See all plan details on our Shipito for Business page.

Can Multiple Team Members or Departments Access the Same Business Forwarding Account?

Answer: Not at this time. Shipito for Business doesn't support multi-user accounts. But our API lets your existing software connect to your account, so different departments can work with shipping data in the systems they already use.

The Shipito API uses HTTPS and JSON (a common data format), so developers can build it into your logistics workflow. It helps with:

  • On-demand shipping rates: Get available rates from supported carriers and compare options.
  • Package consolidation: Combine eligible packages to lower shipping costs.
  • Address verification: Check delivery addresses for errors before shipments go out.
  • Insurance: Add supported insurance options to eligible shipments.
  • Customs documentation: Create and manage the customs documents you need.
  • Dangerous goods handling: Use the right options for eligible dangerous goods, subject to carrier rules, documents, and availability.

The API is not the same as giving each employee their own login with separate permissions. Still, it is very useful for businesses that process orders often and want less repetitive manual work. Learn more on our API and integrations page.

What's the Best Way for a Business To Forward Product Samples From Multiple U.S. Suppliers to One Location?

Answer: Have every supplier send samples to one U.S. warehouse address, then consolidate them and ship them to you together. This costs much less than paying for a separate overseas shipment for each package.

Here's how to do it with Shipito:

  • Step 1: Sign up for a Shipito for Business membership and use your U.S. address when you order samples from your suppliers.
  • Step 2: As each package arrives, you'll see its details in your account.
  • Step 3: Wait for the rest of your samples to arrive, staying within your free storage period.
  • Step 4: Request consolidation to combine the packages into one shipment.
  • Step 5: Choose your shipping method, and we'll send the shipment to your location.

This works best for businesses testing products before a bigger wholesale order. You can bring samples from different manufacturers together, inspect them wherever you are in the world, and make better buying decisions without arranging each overseas delivery separately.
