Package Forwarding Pricing and Rates FAQ

Last updated:

Shipping from the U.S. doesn't have to be expensive. The total price depends on three things: the forwarding fees you pay, how your packages are packed, and the carrier you choose.

This FAQ explains how Shipito keeps costs low, lists our fees for Free and Premium accounts, compares membership plans, and shows what a small package can cost to ship. For a quote to your country, use our shipping calculator.

What Are the Cheapest Options for Forwarding Packages From the U.S. to Other Countries Without Sacrificing Reliability?

Answer: Look for a package forwarding service that offers a free U.S. address, free storage, package consolidation, and discounted carrier rates. Then check its reviews and its published prices before you ship.

Shipito gives you all of these. Every member gets a free U.S. address. One of our warehouses is in Oregon, a state with no sales tax. When your package arrives, we store it for free for 7 days on a Free account, 45 or 60 days with Premium, and up to 90 days on some plans. While your packages wait, you can keep shopping, then we consolidate your purchases into one box to save on international shipping.

Reliability matters as much as price. Shipito has forwarded packages for members around the world since 2009. Here's how we help protect your purchases:

  • Package photos: We take 1 to 3 photos of the outside of every package we receive, and you can order photos of the items inside.
  • Extra care on request: You can ask for extra packing material, help with your customs declaration, or Express Processing.
  • Shipping insurance: You can add insurance when you request your shipment.

Which Package Forwarding Services Offer the Best Discounted Rates With Major Carriers Like DHL, FedEx, and UPS?

Answer: Choose a forwarder that ships large volumes with many carriers, because volume earns lower rates. Shipito works with more than 20 carriers and services, including DHL, FedEx, UPS, USPS, Aramex, and Australia Post.

Because we ship a high volume of packages, we get rates that are lower than what you would usually pay if you booked directly with one of these carriers. The carriers you can choose depend on your country and on the warehouse your package ships from.

Which Parcel Forwarding Services Offer the Best Balance Between Shipping Speed and Cost for International Shoppers?

Answer: The best balance comes from a forwarder with several warehouses, a choice of fast and economy carriers, and services that lower your cost per package, such as consolidation and lower member fees. Shipito offers all three.

We know you're excited to get your purchases, and you also want to spend as little as possible on shipping. Here's how Shipito helps with both:

  • Four warehouses: We have warehouses in California and Oregon in the U.S., Rastenfeld in Austria, and Chiba in Japan. Choose the warehouse that makes the most sense for where you live and where you shop.
  • Free storage: Every account gets at least 7 days of free storage, so you have time to wait for more orders.
  • Consolidation: Shop today, tomorrow, and the day after. We combine your purchases into one box, so you ship once instead of many times.
  • Lower fees with Premium: The processing fee is $3.25 per package on a Free account and $2.25 with Premium.
  • Carrier choice: Pick an express carrier when speed matters most, or an economy option when price matters most.

Is Shipito Actually Better Value Than Other Package Forwarding Services Once You Factor in Consolidation and Hidden Fees?

Answer: Shipito offers strong value for two reasons. Consolidation can save you up to 80% on shipping costs, and we publish all our fees, so there are no hidden forwarding fees.

When you ship internationally, carriers charge for your package's weight and for how much space it takes up. If you ship several small boxes, you pay for those again and again. When we consolidate, we repack your purchases into one box and remove retail boxes, packing fillers, and other extras that make the box bigger. You pay for one shipment instead of many.

Here are our main fees. You can see the full list on our pricing page.

  • Processing per package: $3.25 Free, $2.25 Premium
  • Express Processing: $8.75 Free, $5.50 Premium
  • Additional photos: $8 Free, $5 Premium
  • Consolidation: $5.50 per package Free, $3.25 per package Premium
  • Customs declaration filled out for you: $7 Free, $5 Premium
  • Extra packing material: $5 Free, $2 Premium
  • Special requests: $15 per half hour for all members
  • Heavy package surcharge: starts at $10 for all members
  • Shipping insurance: starts at $3 for all members
  • Assisted Purchase: $8.50 fee, plus 4.3% processing and 8% commission, for all members

All prices are in U.S. dollars. The shipping cost itself depends on the carrier, your country, and your package's weight and size.

Is a Paid Membership Worth It for Occasional Shoppers, or Is a Pay-As-You-Go Plan Better?

Answer: If you only shop now and then, a Free account is usually the better choice. If you shop often, or like to collect orders over several weeks before shipping, Premium can pay for itself with lower fees and longer free storage.

Free storage is one of the biggest differences between plans. Paid members get longer storage, which works well for regular shopping sprees.

For example, Premium Annual costs $60 per year. You could shop during a big October sale, and we store your purchases for free for up to 60 days. Then you shop again on Black Friday, and we consolidate everything into one box. You can do the same during other sales throughout the year.

If you only shop once in a while, you may not need long storage. Premium still lowers your fees, but you might pay for a membership you don't fully use.

Here are Shipito's membership plans and their free storage:

  • Free: $0, 7 days of free storage
  • Premium Monthly: $10 per month, 45 days
  • Premium Annual: $60 per year, up to 60 days
  • Business Standard: fewer than 10 shipments per month, 45 days
  • Business Starter: 10 shipments per month, 45 days
  • Business Growth: 30 shipments per month, 60 days
  • Business Enterprise: 50 or more shipments per month, 90 days

Business plans cost $12 per month or $99 per year. See our Premium membership page and Shipito for Business for details.

After your free storage ends, you pay to extend it. Know what kind of shopper you are, and plan your purchases and consolidation around your storage time.

How Much Does It Typically Cost To Forward a Small Package From the U.S. to Europe or Asia?

Answer: It depends on the package's weight, size, and value, the destination, and the shipping method. Economy options cost less but take longer, and express carriers cost more but arrive in a few days.

Here is one example. Take an 8 x 8 x 8 inch package that weighs 20 pounds and is worth $2,500:

  • To the Philippines by USPS RRD Priority Mail: from about $166, with delivery in about 10 to 15 business days.
  • To the Philippines by DHL Express: about $238 including insurance, with delivery in about 2 to 4 business days.
  • To Spain: from about $175 to $541, depending on the carrier.
